The US Federal Aviation Administration and the nation's commercial airline pilots have reached a compromise regarding "land and hold short operations" (LAHSO), allowing expanded use of the capacity expanding air traffic control practice from 14 August. Pilot groups had refused to follow the procedure, saying it was unsafe. It was agreed that LAHSO will take place only on runways that are deemed safe for the procedure, and that pilots will conduct them only after receiving training.
