Flight International online news 08:30 GMT: Lan Airlines is about to sign a letter of intent (LOI) for up to 40 more Airbus narrowbody aircraft, less than two months after placing an order for an initial from the A320 family.

From details released yesterday, the Chilean airline is planning to adapt its June firm order for a mix of A318s and A319s, with options on 25 more, to a firm order for 15 A318s and 18 aircraft from the A319, A320 and A321 range.

This revised order will also include 25 options on the smaller airframe and 22 options on the rest of the family of narrowbody aircraft.

Lan’s pending order was detailed in two releases from International Aero Engines (IAE) and Pratt & Whitney, which  confirmed new engine deals with the Chilean carrier.

Notably, Pratt & Whitney has now closed its first firm order for its PW6000, the engine once considered to be launch engine for the A318. The powerplant is expected to be certified in October.
