The US Comsat Mobile Communications company has introduced a 2.7kg lap-top-sized personal satellite telephone, called the Planet 1, which can be used anywhere in the world, via the new Inmarsat 3 communications satellites, the first of which will be launched in March. The Japanese NEC-built, $3,000 receiver will enable calls costing about $3 per minute to be made.
