BAE Systems Avionics is to supply the laser system for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter's (JSF) Electro Optical Targeting System (EOTS). The laser will provide the EOTS with precision range measurement and a laser guided weapon designation capability. It will be developed by BAE's Crewe Toll facility in Scotland, and manufacturing should commence in 2006. Meanwhile, Pratt & Whitney (P&W) has completed assembly of the first production configuration F135 engine for the F-35 JSF. The engine will be tested at P&W's West Palm Beach, Florida, facility with first flight on a JSF planned for 2005.
