Russia's last airworthy Lishunov Li-2, a licence-built version of the Douglas DC-3, was destroyed in an accident on 27 June. Two of the five people on board were killed in the crash, which followed a loss of power after take-off on a training flight. Immediately after getting airborne from Myachkovo - a small aerodrome used for club aviation - the aircraft lost power and hit a multi-storey building 2km (1nm) from the runway.

More than 6,000 Li-2s were produced in three Soviet factories - Himki (near Moscow), Tashkent and Komsomolsk - between 1941 and 1952.
