ILS International Launch Services has been awarded a contract from Luxembourg's Societe Europeéne des Satellites to launch the Astra 2A communications satellite aboard a Russian Proton booster from Baikonur in 1997. The 2A is also on the official Arianespace manifest, but will be replaced by another Astra satellite, originally an optional flight. Arianespace is to launch Indonesia's Telkom 1 communications satellite in 1998/9, bringing to 40 the number of contracts on its orderbook.
