Irish based aircraft lessor Lease Corporation International (LCI) has placed an order for six Airbus A330-300s powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.
ATI sister publication Commercial Aviation Online (CAO) reports the operating lessor will take delivery of three aircraft in 2009 and the remaining three in 2010. All six aircraft will be placed on medium-term operating leases to Singapore Airlines.
CAO says it understands the A330-300s will be interim aircraft for Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A350-900 fleet. The carrier placed an order for 20 of the type last year with 20 options.
The Airbus A330-300s will join a Boeing 747-400F already leased to Singapore Airlines Cargo through LCI’s associated Singapore affiliate, Singapore Commercial Leasing.
LCI chief executive Crispin Maunder tells CAO that the new aircraft order is “consistent with the lessor’s strategy of acquiring new or relatively new aircraft and placing them on long-term leases”.
Maunder says: “We welcome the opportunity to further develop our relationship with Singapore Airlines through this transaction. The arrival of these aircraft will mark a major step forward in the renewal of our aircraft portfolio and further developments will be announced shortly.”
