Gulfstream GATX Leasing has placed its first aircraft, a Gulfstream IV-SP, into service on short-term lease with a North American company.

The aircraft is the first of six ordered by the leasing company, an 85:15 joint venture between lessor GATX Capital and manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace. Five GVs will be delivered between the third quarter and 2002. The venture has options on six additional aircraft, for delivery from 2001 to 2004.

The business jet maker says the lease programme - for leases of two to five years - is designed to provide "the benefits of new Gulfstream ownership without the large capital investment, for customers with short-term aircraft needs". The firm also offers Gulfstream fractional ownership through Executive Jet's NetJets programme.
