Lufthansa Technik (LHT) is aggressively expanding its airframe-related components (ARC) servicing business with the acquisition of Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Composite International and the setting up of a new overhaul shop in Shenzhen, China.

Hamburg-based LHT says the two facilities will enable it to form an "ARC network that will overhaul and repair thrust reversers, engine cowlings and other composite components worldwide".

Composite International operates a pair of autoclaves that enable it to repair aircraft structural elements. Current customers include Boeing and Northwest Airlines.

The Shenzhen operation is being set up as a joint venture between LHT and local Chinese industry to serve airlines in the Asia Pacific region. Its ARC shop and a service centre for aircraft wheels and brakes are due to open in the second half of this year.
