GE subsidiary Middle River Aircraft Systems is to co-operate with Lufthansa Technik for maintenance of GEnx-2B engine nacelles.
The companies have signed a long-term agreement under which the German MRO group becomes MRAS’s authorised service centre to provide equipment repairs, spare-parts pool access and customer support for the thrust reversers on the Boeing 747-8 engine.
Repair capabilities will be established at LHT’s main base in Hamburg and Chinese subsidiary in Shenzhen. This will cover maintenance and modification services ranging from entry-into-service support to complex repairs, says LHT.
The MRO group will also set up a spare-parts pool to provide customer replacement equipment on a lease or exchange basis while their thrust reversers are being repaired.
Given Lufthansa’s 747-8 fleet – the carrier is currently the largest operator of the type, with an in-service fleet of 14 and another five on order – its maintenance arm is “strategically positioned” to provide thrust-reverser support to other customers, says GE’s nacelle products general manager Huntley Myrie.
