Maintenance specialist Lufthansa Technik will open a component warehouse at London Heathrow and, later this year, a similar site in Hong Kong.
The UK facility is directly located at the capital's hub and will initially be used to supply components for "virtually all systems" on Airbus A320-family and A330 aircraft, LHT says. But it adds that that the site will cover other types in future too.
Opening a UK warehouse is part of the Hamburg-based MRO group's effort to consolidate its material supply network in Europe and optimise transport to international locations. While its says the new warehouse is underlines the importance of the UK aviation market, it asserts that the site "facilitates the quickest possible transport connections to international destinations".
The maintenance provider indicates that it is also expanding its activities in the Americas and Asia, and plans to open another warehouse in Hong Kong this year.
