Liberty Aircraft has clinched the first orders for its XL-2 piston single from a private owner and the Melbourne, Australia-based Civil Flying School. Further orders from the training centre are also anticipated.

The UK-based company is selling the first 50 Rotax 912S-powered XL-2s at $85,000. Thereafter the price will be hiked to $97,500. The part metal, part composite XL-2 offers a payload of over 270kg (600lb), a cruise speed of around 120kt (220km/h) and a range of 925km (500nm). Flight testing begins in the fourth quarter.
