L-3 Communications' Link Simulation and Training Division (Hall2, A2) has won a $15.3 million contract to design and deliver two Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 40L unit training devices for the Egyptian Air Force (EAF).

The trainers will be built under a contract from the USAF's Aeronautical Systems Centre and will simulate EAF's latest F-16 configuration. Delivery to EAF's Gianaclis site will begin in 2003 with further units going to the Fayid fighter base in 2005.

Beneficial

L-3 Communications VP, Gary Nesta says: "This award follows Link's delivery of four F-16 simulators to EAF in 2001. During this period we had the opportunity to build a mutually beneficial relationship with the Egyptian Air Force.

"The trainers delivered in 2001, combined with the new simulators, will provide a state-of-the-art capability that will strongly support both maintaining and enhancing pilot skills." The trainers will allow pilots to practice take-offs and landings, formation flight, low-level navigation and air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. Pilots will also be able to acquire and identify targets and accurately deliver a wide range of weapons systems.
