Indonesian low-fare carrier Lion Air has signed a $17 million contract with Volvo Aero that will see the Swedish company maintain the JT8D engines that power its fleet of 15 Boeing MD-80s. Volvo Aero will also assist Lion Air in establishing an engine services shop in Jakarta. The deal sees Volvo Aero assisting Lion Air with technical support functions maintenance planning. Volvo Aero will supply the airline with a spare engine when needed.
