Portugal’s new socialist government has resurrected plans to build a new airport for Lisbon. The government has selected a site at Ota, 50km (30 miles) north of the capital for the planned new development, which will cost €650 million ($783 million). Plans to build an airport to replace the ageing Portela complex were ditched in 2002 in an effort to rein in a ballooning budget deficit.
