The US Marine Corps is upgrading a video datalink for the Rafael/Northrop Grumman Litening targeting pod to allow ground control of the system.
The Tadiran Spectralink datalink is now used to relay images from the Litening pod to the ground station, says company president Yitzhak Beny.
"In the future," he adds, "it will allow a ground controller to use the pod like a payload on unmanned air vehicles. He will have full control of the system."
The Israeli company has been awarded a $6 million contract to supply the advanced datalink.
