A Lockheed Martin Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) with a live J-1000 warhead completed an "end-to-end" flight trial in April, destroying a target at the White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The test was followed by a separation test from a Boeing B-52 bomber.

The stealthy cruise missile was launched from a Lockheed Martin USAF F-16 fighter flying at an altitude of 2,800ft (850m). The missile autonomously navigated to the target, using its imaging infrared seeker and automatic target correlator algorithms in the terminal phase to pinpoint the target.

JASSM has completed 14 airworthiness flight tests, four powered and 10 unpowered, which established the viability of the seeker and mission planning software. The focus of flight testing is now on target destruction. Further tests will demonstrate performance against a broader target set.
