Lufthansa’s supervisory board today approved an order for 30 short- and medium-haul Airbus aircraft, as well as five Airbus A330s.
The order comprises 15 A321s, 10 A320s and five A319s, scheduled for delivery in 2007. The A330s will be delivered “over the next two years” and will be used to compensate for the delivery delays to the A380, says Lufthansa.
The carrier’s board has also approved taking options on 30 additional A320-family aircraft. No engines were specified for any of the types.
Lufthansa says its short- and medium-haul fleet renewal will enable it to boost capacity and continue expanding over the next few years.
“This order underlines our commitment to growth,” says Lufthansa chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber in a statement. “We are achieving profitable growth and are thus opening up new perspectives for our employees and shareholders.”
