Star Alliance member Lufthansa is in negotiations to mount a takeover of Swiss International Air Lines and integrate the carrier into the Lufthansa Group. The carriers say that the business model under consideration would maintain Swiss's independence "to the extent possible". They add: "If the required approvals are obtained, Lufthansa will submit an offer to the free-float shareholders based on the average share price of recent weeks."
