Lufthansa Flight Training (LFT) is to buy a fleet of seven Piper Seneca V aircraft, with options on a further four. The first deliveries begin in January 1998.

The deal, announced by New Piper Aircraft of Vero Beach, Florida, at Le Bourget yesterday, will involve the aircraft being based at Lufthansa's training base in the USA where they will be operated by Airline Training Centre Arizona (ATCA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of LFT.

The aircraft will be used for training Lufthansa pilots on multi-engined aircraft. They will be built to LFT and ATCA specifications.

The Seneca V, introduced in January 1997, features Teledyne/Continental TSIO-360-RB engines.
