Lufthansa has signed the first authorised training provider agreement with Bombardier Aerospace for the Canadian manufacturer's CSeries aircraft.
The deal covers the Lufthansa Flight Training and Lufthansa Technical Training subsidiaries with the former providing pilot training for potential European operators of the CS100 and CS300 aircraft, due to enter service in 2013.
Training will be delivered across a number of centres in Europe and will start in 2013 ahead of the first CSeries delivery. Lufthansa says training will mirror that conducted by Bombardier in Montreal.
"The anticipated success of the CSeries aircraft programme represents a strategic opportunity for us," says Lufthansa Flight Training president Florian Hamm.
Both Lufthansa divisions will use Bombardier course materials in tandem with their own instructors, infrastructure and simulators.
The joint training approach between Bombardier and Lufthansa "guarantees operator-focused training concepts and techniques", notes Technical Training chief operating officer Holger Beck.
Bombardier says it will pursue more authorised training provider opportunities in other regions, which will be unveiled at a later date.
Lufthansa, the CSeries' launch customer, has signed a firm purchase agreement for 30 CS100 aircraft and 30 options, while lessor LCI has ordered three CS100s and 17 CS300s.
