Lufthansa plans to begin operating its fifth Airbus A380 on the New York JFK-Frankfurt route in February.
Executives with the carrier announced the news this week at an event in New York.
Flightglobal's ACAS database shows that Lufthansa currently operates Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the route.
Lufthansa executives last year applauded JFK's Terminal 1 - of which Lufthansa is part-owner - for doing "a tremendous job to upgrade its facilities to make the airport A380 ready".
Lufthansa's other A380s currently serve Frankfurt to Tokyo, Beijing and Johannesburg.
Separately, the carrier says it is now offering its in-flight magazine, Lufthansa Magazin, as a free app to Apple iPad users.
"The new, free app ensures that the magazine's fans will be able to enjoy every issue even if not on a Lufthansa flight each month. The digitalized format is available beginning with the December edition," says Lufthansa.
