Star Alliance carrier Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines have agreed to surrender slots at eight European airports in return for regulatory clearance for the German airline’s takeover of its Swiss counterpart. European Commission regulators have approved Lufthansa’s takeover of Swiss on condition that the airlines provide greater market access to competitors on a number of short-haul and long-haul routes. The airlines have committed to giving up slots at their three main hubs – Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich – as well as airports in Berlin, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Stockholm and Vienna.
