Aermacchi's M346 advanced jet trainer and light-attack aircraft began low-speed taxi trials at the Italian company's Venegono plant on 28 April. A maximum speed of 30kt (55km/h) was recorded. The aircraft, powered by two Honeywell F124-GA-200 6,300lb-thrust (28kN) turbofans, is expected to make its first flight shortly. It is designed to meet future European fast jet training needs.
