Flight International online news 11:00GMT: M7 Aerospace has received a US FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) to convert ATR 72s into freighters.
The San Antonio, Texas-based firm already holds an STC for passenger-to-freighter conversions of ATR 42 turboprops, and has completed 30 such conversions.
The ATR 72 conversion entails removing passenger configuration hardware from the cabin and installing a new 10-zone cargo configuration.
This installation, says M7, includes strengthening of the floor structure, modifying the doors to facilitate loading of cargo, strengthening the door surrounds to prevent damage during loading and installing an enhanced smoke detection system.
