Regional jet manufacturers Bombardier and Embraer are planning to manufacture their aircraft in China as they target the potentially lucrative Chinese market. Embraer has firmed up an agreement with two subsidiaries of China Aviation Industry Corp II covering licence-production of ERJ-135/140/ 145s. The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in December 2003. Meanwhile, Bombardier has signed a tentative agreement with China Aviation Industry I to co-produce the Canadair Regional Jet Series 700 and 900 family in Shanghai. The manufacturers believe there is a market in China for 500 aircraft of up to 100 seats over the next 20 years.
