The increasing use of magnesium alloys in the aerospace industry is good news for British based Magnesium Elektron which is expanding its presence in the niche market. Lighter than aluminium alternatives, magnesium alloys are now increasingly common in aerospace structures including helicopter gearboxes and aircraft landing wheels.
Magnesium Elektron's products, shown on Hall2 K1 have already been specified on the main gearboxes of the McDonnell Douglas MD500 and the Eurocopter EC120.
