MAJ Aviation is investing S$8 million ($6 million) to set up a general aviation hangar at Singapore's Seletar Aerospace Park.
The hangar will cover a total area of 6,000m2 (64,600ft2). Construction will start in January 2011 and be completed in September. It will provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services, as well as ancillary services such as baggage handling, aircraft cleaning, and aircraft parking for fleet operators.
It will be able to cater to 40 general aviation aircraft at any one time. Fourteen of these can be housed on a two-storey rotating carousel that MAJ says is a world first.
MAJ Aviation expects to focus solely on the general aviation market within Singapore. It already has three clients: the Singapore Flying College, the Youth Flying Club and WingsOverAsia, a group of local aviation enthusiasts.
MAJ employs 30 technical staff but expects to increase this to 40 by the time the hangar opens, when the company foresees increased demand.
MRO services now make up 10% of MAJ's revenues, but the company expects this to grow to 30% in three years as Singapore's general aviation industry grows.
MAJ Aviation was established in 2003. It provides specialised aviation services and engineering support to the aviation industry.
