One of Malaysia Airlines' Boeing 737-800s appears to have sustained damage after veering off the runway following a domestic service to Sibu.
The aircraft had arrived in darkness, following a service from Kuala Lumpur, with Sibu meteorological data indicating rain and reduced visibility.
Malaysia Airlines states that its flight MH2718 had touched down at 22:17 on 8 April, during a "heavy downpour".
The aircraft "skidded upon landing", it adds, and it was subsequently evacuated using two slides.
None of the 61 passengers or six crew members was injured, according to initial information available to the airline.
"The safety of all passengers is of utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines and an immediate investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident," it says.
Sibu NOTAMs state that the airport has been closed owing to a disabled aircraft on the runway. The airport has a single runway, designated 13/31, with a length of some 9,000ft.
Images circulating on social media, purportedly showing the aircraft, indicate that it has come to rest on rough ground, apparently with its fuselage and engines in contact with the ground. The extent of damage to the twinjet is unclear.
Preliminary but unconfirmed data on flight MH2718 suggests the aircraft was 9M-MXX, a three-year old airframe leased from Avolon, according to Flight Fleets Analyzer.
