Although its great ambition is to start transatlantic services out of London Heathrow, British Midland has gone part of the way by announcing scheduled services between Manchester Airport and Washington Dulles and Chicago O'Hare. Codeshare flights with Star Alliance partner United will start in the second quarter of 2001 with Airbus A330s. "Passengers from Heathrow will be denied the benefits that genuine competition brings until the Bermuda II agreement is liberalised and we are allowed to enter the transatlantic market from Heathrow," said British Midland chairman Sir Michael Bishop.
