The Indian navy is showing renewed interest in acquiring eight ex-US Navy Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft, after the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency last month offered to reduce the cost of the proposed deal. The retired P-3B aircraft will be upgraded to the enhanced P-3Cstandard under the deal, which seeks to replace India's current Ilyushin Il-38 and Tupolev Tu-142 maritime surveillance aircraft. India's Defence Procurement Board has already rejected offers to acquire Northrop Grumman's E-2C Hawkeye and surplus Dassault Atlantiques from France.
