Comtran and Jet Engineering, which developed the "Super Q" Chapter 4 modification for the Boeing MD-80, installed their blended winglet concept for the twinjet on Comtran's MD-80 at the Farnborough air show last month. "We expect to be able to deliver winglet kits to the market in the second half of 2007," says Comtran chief executive Douglas Jaffe. He adds that the winglets should produce fuel savings of 4-4.5% per aircraft per year.
