The SBAC's first female boss, Dr Sally Howes, is in Paris to lend her support to activities here a few weeks before taking over from outgoing director general David Marshall.

Marshall, meanwhile, has been honoured in the Queen's birthday honours list. He is to be made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of his services to defence and aerospace industries.

Dr Howes, who joins SBAC (Society of British Aerospace Companies) from space industry consultants ESYS, knows her first priority is "to listen and find out what our customers, the companies we represent, want".

"I don't come with a particular agenda but I believe we must be customer focused," she says.
