Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is studying longer-term replacement options for its Fokker 50s as it looks to fill the gap between those 50-seaters and its 144-seat Boeing 737-400s.

The carrier has in recent years considered replacements for its 10 Fokker 50 turboprops several times but repeatedly deferred any real movement. Industry sources say MAS is again considering replacements, with manufacturers asked to conduct studies and make informal presentations.
