Malaysia Airlines (MAS) managing director Mohamad Nor Yusof, the man credited by many in the industry with helping to turn the national carrier around, has been appointed to lead the country's Securities Commission.

The government told local media that Mohamad Nor will be taking over as chairman of the Securities Commission on 1 April and a search is already under way for a new leader at state-owned MAS.

Mohamad Nor was named managing director of MAS early in 2001, after the government completed a renationalisation of the then-troubled airline. He is a former senior banker and finance ministry adviser.
