Metal has been cut on the first of 20 McDonnell Douglas (MDC) MD-90s to be built in China under the country's Trunkliner programme. Fabrication has begun at Aviation Industries of China factories in Xian, Shenyang and Chengdu and at Shanghai Aviation Industrial's Dachang plant, where final assembly will be performed. The first aircraft will be completed in the second quarter of 1998. MDC is delivering a further 20 MD-90s to China.
