McDonnell Douglas Helicopters (MDH) is to introduce aggressive price cuts to stimulate sales of its MD600N and MD902 after admitting that its prices "have been too high".
The price of the eight-seat MD600N, which is expected to receive US Federal Aviation Administration certification by early December, is now down to $1.25 million, from $1.36 million. The first MD600N will be handed over to Grand Canyon-based tour operator AirStar Helicopters on 18 December.
The recently revamped MD902 Explorer, which is to succeed the MD900 in 1997, will now sell for $3.6 million, a $500,000 cut over the former price. The new lower price includes the preferred option package, which was previously priced at around $500,000.
MDH light-helicopter-division vice-president Erv Hunter says that the cuts were made, "because we need to be more competitive in the markets we serve".
