Australia’s Department of Defence has become the launch export customer for Meggitt Defense Systems’ GT-400 gliding target system, having signed a US foreign military sales order worth almost A$280,000 ($205,000).

The GT-400 has a glide range of 75km (40nm) and executes a pre-programmed flight using GPS waypoint navigation. It also incorporates a flight termination and recovery system for reuse in the event of unsuccessful engagement. Deliveries will be completed by mid-June. Australia already operates a variety of Meggitt towed-target systems, but had been exploring options for glide targets to meet very-low-level air-defence training requirements.
