Cambodia's Mekong Airlines has suspended services after less than four months of operations due to weak demand caused by SARS-related travel fears.

The airline launched domestic and international operations with a single Boeing 737-500 leased from International Lease Finance (ILFC) at the end of January and had planned to add a second aircraft in the middle of this year. It aims to restart services in July.

Privately owned Mekong operated domestic flights between Phnom Penh and the tourist city of Siem Reap, as well as international services to Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

Mekong was established to fill a gap left by the October 2001 collapse of national carrier Royal Air Cambodge. It is owned by investors from Cambodia, Australia and other countries.
