Flight International online news 10:30GMT: Melbourne Airport in Australia was temporarily closed to traffic today after a Thai Airways International Airbus A340-600 blew two tyres on landing, forcing inbound aircraft to divert to other airports.
The operator of Australia’s second-busiest airport says in a statement issued at 13:55 local time that aircraft movements are now allowed again following the suspension of operations that began at 11:59 when the landing incident occurred.
Melbourne Airport says the A340, operating as flight TG981 from Bangkok, landed safe but blew two tyres on landing.
None of the 253 passengers on board were injured.
Flight delays are expected for several more hours as “the temporary suspension of operations will impact on other scheduled flights”.
