Meridiana is considering the creation of a "no frills" subsidiary to tackle increasing competition in the low cost sector. The Italian regional operator based in Sardinia will transfer staff from its existing operation to the new operation. The airline is discussing a 15% increase in productivity with no wage increase. Its fleet includes 18 aircraft: six McDonnell Douglas DC-9-51s, eight MD-82s and four British Aerospace BAe 146-200s.
