London-headquartered fixed-base operator (FBO) chain Metro Business Aviation has been renamed Harrods Aviation, after eight years of ownership by the holding group that owns the London department store.

Harrods chairman Mohamed Al Fayed would not allow the company to adopt the Harrods title until it had established a sufficiently strong reputation for service quality, says Harrods Aviation chief executive Steve Grimes.

Harrods Aviation is expanding its London Luton FBO, adding a 750m2 (8,000ft2) building to house passenger and crew lounges and conference and flight planning rooms. Work should be complete by the end of next month.
