Mexican airport operator OMA has given Mexicana and its affiliates notice that advance payments for passenger charges will be necessary beginning 21 August.
OMA states that Mexicana and its subsidiaries Click and Link, which are not included in the mainline carrier's restructuring, will either need to pay departure charges for passengers in advance or ask passengers to make payments directly to the airport prior to boarding. Mexicana on 3 August sought creditor protection.
OMA's decision to end its agreement with Mexicana for the collection of passenger charges is to "protect future revenues as a result of developments in these airlines".
For the first six months of 2010 OMA says Grupo Mexicana's airlines generated 12.2% of its revenues, with Mexicana mainline accounting for 5.9% of that total.
Of the $458 million pesos (US$30 million) in accounts receivable on OMA's balance sheet, an amount of 99 million pesos is attributed to Grupo Mexicana, with 49.5 million pesos of that total owed by Mexicana mainline.
Groupo Mexicana currently operates at the following OMA airports: Acapulco, Chihuahua, Culiacan, Durango, Mazatlan, Monterrey, Reynosa, Tampico, Torreon, and Zihuatanejo.
