Miami Air International is the first airline to introduce Jeppesen’s Class 2 electronic flight bag (EFB). Jeppesen says the US carrier is the first to have EFBs in operation across Class 1, 2 and 3 hardware platforms.

The Class 2 system has been installed in the cockpits of the Florida-based charter airline’s Boeing 737s. Kurt Kamrad, Miami Air vice-president flight operations, says: “With the help of Jeppesen’s EFB, Miami Air hopes to create a truly paperless cockpit in the near future, resulting in a reduced workload in the cockpit and back in the office.”

Jeppesen says that as a result of working agreements with parent company Boeing, as well as Airbus, it can deploy the EFB in a mixed-fleet environment, using Class 1, 2 or 3 platforms. This year the company plans to conclude further agreements with both manufacturers to include its software as an option on new aircraft models.
