The Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA) is making its Paris debut just months after its official launch as a trade association representing the considerable expertise in propulsion and control systems in the UK Midlands region.

The British Midlands is home to one of Europe's most significant aerospace industry clusters, and many MAA members are involved in major global programmes, including the Airbus A380.

"It is gratifying to see so much Midlands expertise on board a programme that is truly in a world of its own," says MAA chief executive Dr Andrew Mair.

To reflect the region's strengths, the MAA has updated its members' capabilities matrix and produced a new guide to the R&D capabilities in the region in its Midlands Universities Guide.

At Le Bourget, the MAA is joined on its stand (Hall 2B, J13) by Accles & Pollock, Alstom Power, the East Midlands Development Agency, Sil-Mid and Superform Aluminium.

Accles & Pollock, the aerospace division of Caparo Steel Products, is a respected international producer of bespoke steel tubing, including air and fuel ducting. The company supplied components to the Large Hardon Collider for CERN, the Swiss particle physics laboratory.

Alstom's aerospace business is bringing its heritage in gas turbine engineering to General Electric's GEnx engine programme for both the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350.

Sil-Mid is the largest independent distributor of consumable materials into the UK aerospace industry. Stocking more than 10,000 items from 350 suppliers, its customers range from private pilots to large international corporations.
