French battery manufacturer Saft has introduced a kit to retrofit its nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries on the Mil Mi-8T helicopter. The kit consists of four 2506A-2 Ni-Cad batteries. It is said to upgrade the cold-temperature engine-start performance and capability for repeated autonomous starts and to increase aircraft payload by 72kg, through reduced battery weight.
