An-26/32
Peru ordered three additional An-32 turboprop transports in mid-1994, quoting a price per aircraft of $1.2 million. The An-32is a "hot-and-high" version of the original An-24 passenger transport, with almost twice the installed power.
An-70
The second prototype An-70 four-propfan transport flew in April 1997. The first was lost in a fatal accident in February 1995, having first flown in December 1994. Antonov used the static-test airframe as the basis for the second prototype.
The An-70 was designed to replace the An-12 in Russian service. The air force maintains a stated requirement for an aircraft in this class, but the question remains whether it can afford to purchase the An-70. Antonov continues to promote the aircraft as the basis for the European FLA.
An-72/74
A previously unknown derivative of the twin-turbofan An-72 STOL transport, the An-72R, has been identified at the Russian test centre at Ahktubinsk. The aircraft has large fuselage-mounted side-looking radar panels, suggesting a stand-off reconnaissance role.
The An-74 is a development of the An-72, powered by two 64kN Lotarev D-36 turbofans. The An-74T is a cargo-transport version. An AEW variant, the An-71, has a rotodome on top of the fin. An An-72P offshore-patrol variant has also been built. An agreement allowing Israel Aircraft Industries to market an upgraded maritime-patrol variant of the An-72P has so far come to nought.
An-124 RUSLAN
About 5% larger than the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, the An-124 is powered by four 230kN Lotarev D-18T turbofans. The An-124 is designed for simultaneous nose and tail loading, with a visor-type lifting nose and integral forward-folding ramp, giving access to a 36m-long, 6.4m-wide and 4.4m-high cargo hold, similar in size to that of the C-5. A pressurised upper deck can accommodate 88 passengers. Customers: CIS 20.
