A-5 Fantan

Developed from the J-6 (Chinese-built Mikoyan MiG-19), the Q-5 attack aircraft first flown in 1965.

The aircraft has a redesigned front fuselage and shoulder intakes, and both length and wingspan is extended. The aircraft is known as the A-5 in export service.

NAMC and Alenia developed an upgraded A-5M in the late 1980s. The upgrade focused on a new navigation/attack suite derived from systems developed for the AMX. This project has fallen into abeyance.
