Flight International provides the latest data on the world's military aircraft.

Flight International's 1995 military-aircraft directory provides details on the major military fixed-wing aircraft now in service or underdevelopment.

To provide a comprehensive guide in one volume, turbine-powered military trainers have been included this year in the main directory instead of in a separate one as has been the case before.

With many advanced trainer aircraft now, also being promoted as light-to-medium strike fighters, it is also appropriate to include these aircraft within the main directory.

The combat aircraft included in this directory are those which are either in production, still in widespread service or are now in development in the West, Russia, China and the Pacific-rim region, with entries on each of the major variants of these aircraft.

Inevitably, given the very nature of combat-aircraft development and operation, there are areas where manufacturers, for issues of national security, have declined to give information. In these cases, we have attempted to provide the best open-source information covering these omissions.

In general, the best-ever level of assistance received from manufacturers around the world has meant that this year's revisions to this directory have been extensive, with further-improved data on the world's combat aircraft.
