Russia's Soyuz TM25 cosmonauts Vasily Tsiblyev and Alexander Lazutkin landed safely in Kazakhstan on 15 August after their troubled 184-day shift aboard the Mir 1 space station (Flight International, 6-12 August, P40).

The Mir's new resident cosmonauts, the TM26's Anatoli Solovyov and Pavel Vonogradov, are scheduled to make an internal spacewalk on 20 August to restore electricity from the solar panels on the damaged Spektr module to the Mir's main power system. US astronaut Michael Foale, is also on the station and will be replaced during the Space Shuttle STS 86/Atlantis mission in September.

Meanwhile, the six-crew, ten-day STS 85/ Discovery Earth observation, science and technology mission was scheduled to end at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 18 August.
